Can I replace my own roof in texas?

HERE ARE OUR THOUGHTS ON DIY ROOF REPLACEMENT

If you are a Texas resident reaching for your workwear and smiling as you think to yourself, “Can I replace my own roof in Texas?”, without having done any research – then boy, are we glad you made it to this page before heading on up there.

There are so many websites and YouTube videos that will tell you that you can replace your roof yourself, complete with that tantalizing DIY roof replacement cost. And, while they are full of information and helpful hints that come from a place of true expertise, they only tell you half the story.

WE WANT YOU TO STOP RIGHT THERE AND READ THIS ARTICLE!

OK, yes, it is technically possible to replace your own roof, but here are five reasons (of many) why we at Agave Roofing do NOT recommend you do it yourself!

REASON #1 – IT IS DANGEROUS

BIG reason number one is of course your safety. Whether you do it on your own or with your group of close DIY friends, it is so dangerous to embark on replacing your own roof. The risk of danger is real, even for professional roofers who do this work every day. Falling from a roof can cause injury and even death – yikes.

The reason your work would undoubtedly be more dangerous than if an expert company carried it out, is that you may not have the correct equipment to protect yourself – or your house – with essential items like scaffolding, harnesses, or hard hats.

REASON #2 – YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’LL BE FACED WITH

We are sure that one of the reasons you want to take on some DIY roof replacement is to keep your costs down. So, heading up a ladder with a hammer and nails to replace a little bit of wood or shingle could seem like the simple solution to the problem of an expensive roof replacement, but what happens when you get up there and you see rotting wood and old shingles beyond repair?

You might need to use up valuable time to research the materials and the work. If your objective was to save some money, you might be facing at least a few days off work, buying an unknown quantity of materials and tools to try and fix the problem.

REASON #3 – THERE ARE EXPERTS WHO CAN DO IT QUICKER!

So as we saw in reason #2, you almost certainly will not save any time doing the job yourself, especially if you have not properly assessed the situation to see what needs doing in the first place. But the great news is that many roofers, such as Agave Roofing, for example, can do the job so SO much more quickly than someone hoping to do a ‘quick’ DIY roof replacement.

By way of example, did you know that ninety-five percent of our roof replacement projects take just one day to complete from start to finish? Yep, one single day! Occasionally on more complex or larger projects, this will be extended to two days.

REASON #4 – YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE PAPERWORK

If you want to file a roof replacement claim, your insurance company will expect estimates from professional roofers. So the upshot is that your insurance company will not recompense an emergency roof repair or replacement that you have done yourself – and did you know that would be the case even if your roof is covered by your homeowners’ insurance policy?

In addition to this, most municipalities in Texas require a permit for the work to replace a roof, which means that the work needs to be inspected and signed off for it to be legal.

REASON #5 – YOU HAVE NO BACKUP IF IT GOES WRONG

If you are still wondering at this point, “can I reshingle my own roof?”, we have one final consideration for you: the future!

When you have your work carried out by a professional roofing service, the work carried out will be under warranty for a certain number of years. But if you do a DIY roof replacement, you won’t be working under anything like the same level of backup as a professional company. Your materials may have a warranty, but as a do-it-yourselfer, you will not. If your roof gets a leak, or there is lasting damage from human error, you are left with the job of having to do the work all over again, the bill for the cost of putting it right, or the need to hire a roofing company after all.

At Agave Roofing we have a 5-Year Workmanship Guarantee meaning that if there are any problems at all with the way we installed your roof, we will quickly come out and fix it for FREE!
